Flexibility. Better work-life balance for caring Kiwis. | |

Did you know that one in five New Zealanders works more than 50 hours each week? We have a culture - and a reputation - for working long hours, and at times it can be a real challenge to manage our increasingly busy lives to achieve good 'work-life balance'. For those of us with the added responsibility of caring for a child, or another person, juggling work and caring can be even more difficult.
The Employment Relations (Flexible Working Arrangements) Amendment Act 2007 was recently passed in Parliament. The Act gives employees caring for another person, the right to request more flexible work arrangements. This might mean asking for their hours, days, or place of work to be changed.
The changes come into force on 1 July 2008, when New Zealand employers must seriously consider all eligible employees' requests for more flexible work arrangements. If you, or someone you know, might benefit from these changes you can click here to read more about the Act and find out more information.
